Classes of 16

Your child learns science, math, writing, and art — through real-world themes. Instead of switching between disconnected subjects all day, everything connects.

That’s The Pear Tree Method.™ It’s how 74 themes across K–9 turn your child’s school day into something they actually remember — and something you can actually see working.

One Theme. Every Subject. Real Work.

Most schools teach subjects in silos. Your child switches between disconnected classes all day — and nothing connects. At Pear Tree, your child works through two or three real-world themes at a time, and every subject connects through them.

Each theme weaves together multiple subjects — so science, math, writing, and art all build on the same real-world topic. Themes run in parallel across the term, and your child rotates between them throughout the week. Every lesson builds on the last. And at the end of each theme, they’ve produced something real — not just filled in worksheets.

Here’s what that actually looks like:

When Grade 2/3 students explored the Solar System, they visited the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. They tracked Moon phases using math. They researched planets and gave their first formal presentations. They designed a Mercury survival shelter using engineering principles. That’s science, math, English language arts, and engineering — woven through one theme. And while that theme was running, they were also working through other themes that covered additional subjects and skills.

We’ve developed 74 themes like this for K–9. Each one is mapped to BC curriculum standards. This isn’t a loose philosophy. It’s a method — built and refined over more than a decade.

Certified and Accountable

Pear Tree School is certified by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care as a Group 3 Independent School (Certificate No. 3996918), currently authorized for Grades K–8.

All classroom teachers hold BC teaching certification. Our educational program is informed by BC curriculum learning standards — and then goes further. The Pear Tree Method doesn’t replace the curriculum. It delivers it through connected, theme-based learning that gives students more context, more practice, and more proof of what they’ve learned.

We’re also members of the Federation of Independent School Associations (FISA).
