Elizabeth Muraiti
School Operations Coordinator
B.A.

Lize received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of British Columbia. This interdisciplinary program emboldened her affinity for holistic, theme-based educational philosophies and institutions like Pear Tree.

Professionally, Lize served as manager and tutor at Reading Town Vancouver, closely working with school-aged children and their families. She also has experience in event coordinating with the Christmas Market and newcomer assistance with ISS of BC. She is gradually working towards obtaining further education to become a certified teacher one day.

Borja Serrano
School Chef
Professional Cook Level 3, FoodSafe Level 2, B.B.A.

Originally from San Sebastian, Spain, Borja decided to move to Canada to pursue his dream of becoming a cook. Borja received his Culinary Management Diploma at Vancouver Island University in a 2-year program, during which he developed his cooking and baking skills. He has progressed to achieve his Red Seal Level 3 (Professional Cook Level 3) status.

Borja previously worked in investment banking in Madrid for 7 years, which has equipped him with skills that are useful in any kitchen. He has a 5-year Business Administration degree.

Borja is passionate not just about cooking, but about healthy and adventurous eating for children. He recognises the importance of food education at any early age, which is why becoming Pear Tree’s school chef was such a natural decision for him and for us!

Patrick Hutton
Assistant School Chef
Level 3 in Food and Hygiene

Patrick Hutton brings over a decade of experience in the culinary industry to his role as Assistant Chef at Pear Tree School. With a background in managing kitchen operations, menu development, and team leadership, Patrick has honed his skills in a variety of dynamic environments, from high-volume restaurants to boutique cafes.

Most recently, Patrick served as Head Chef at Turf in Kitsilano, where he led a kitchen team, created innovative menus, and managed daily food service and catering operations. His previous roles also include working in Australia and the UK, where he specialized in preparing meals that cater to various dietary needs and maintaining the highest food safety standards.

Patrick is passionate about food education and creating nutritious meals that inspire the next generation.

Our chef is Red Seal Level 3 (Professional Cook Level 3) certified.
