A Day in the Life

Sample Grade 4/5 Day

At Pear Tree, no two days look the same — but every day has the same structure: movement, focused theme work, specialist classes, a hot lunch made from scratch, and time outside. Students rotate between two or three themes across the week.

Soft Start

A calm, gradual start to the school day — reducing stress and setting up a focused learning environment.

P.E.

A 1-hour session with our own P.E. teacher at Connaught Park.

Theme: Canada Then

Morning theme session — students worked on a numeracy activity related to immigration.

Music

Led by our dedicated music teacher. Music and French alternate on different days.

Hot Lunch

Every student, every day. Made from scratch by our Red Seal chef.

Theme: Urban Farming

One of the themes running this term. Today: a 6-station rotation — comparing organic vs factory eggs, analyzing dairy farming articles, scientific drawing of BC-grown berries, and more.

Theme: Canada Then

The day’s final theme session returns to Canada: Then — a critical thinking exercise designed to provoke deep, analytical thinking and logical deductions.

Recess

45 minutes at Connaught Park, rain or shine. Playground, sport fields, and a 10-minute walk each way.

74 Themes. Every Subject Connected.

Every term, students work through two or three themes at the same time — rotating between them across the week. Each theme weaves together multiple subjects. Here are 12 of them.

Where Learning Becomes Proof

The final weeks of each term are dedicated to project work. Students produce something real — a presentation, a model, a report, a prototype — and showcase it at our end-of-term exhibitions.
