We have held off on sharing any plans for Pear Tree until now, as nothing was confirmed with our landlord or the City of Vancouver. However, we are delighted to finally be able to share some exciting news with all of you!

Most of you will be aware of a new suite opposite that we are now using, Suite 212. This is the actually only part 1 of a 2-part expansion in our transition to becoming a full K – 12 school!

What’s Happening?

For September 2021, we will have 2 x additional classrooms to allow us to expand to up to grade 9.

In order to achieve this, we will be taking over the lease of the neighboring suites 211 and 209 in May to be able to add our Middle School wing. This wing will also provide a separate entrance for the older students (perfect given the current circumstances!) and additional washrooms.

Suite 212 across the hall will be in use by our staff, and will provide much needed storage space, as well as a laundry room, meeting space, and additional teacher’s room.

In total, our facilities will almost be doubling in size to around 5,000 square feet.

Here is what our layout will look like, including suite opposite.

Pear Tree Elementary

Despite COVID, we were fortunate to provide summer camps again this year, which helped to contribute financially to our expansion. We know that COVID has impacted the world both locally and internationally, and feel so fortunate that it has not impacted Pear Tree as much as it has other schools and businesses.

Though our school is small and comparatively new, we have an amazing school community that has been extremely supportive! Many of you have emailed or spoken to Alexis and myself to express your gratitude, and all of these actions are so appreciated. Thank you for continuing to support our common goal of providing the best possible education to your child.

We have a strong foundation of students, parents, and staff which we feel confident that we can build upon to transition to a 4 or 5-classroom environment by September 2021. This would allow us to expand up to a potential grade 9 level; though, we are likely to focus on expanding our K-7 numbers to begin with.

As you’ll notice from our website, our combined class groupings will change, as follows:

  1. Early Years Program: Kindergarten – Grade 1
  2. Primary Years Program: Grades 2 – 3
  3. Intermediate Years Program: Grades 4 – 5
  4. Lower Middle Years Program: Grades 6 – 7
  5. Upper Middle Years Program: Grades 8 – 9

Grades 10 -12 will be added as our students progress towards grade 9.
