For anyone that doesn’t know what the Ironman Event is, it’s a long-distance triathlon consisting of:
1) A 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim
2) A 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride
3) And, a marathon
All this is done back-to-back without a break.
Steph Corker has completed 16 X Ironman races, and has qualified for 3 X Ironman World Championships (held in Hawaii). She has also run countless marathons. Her life and achievements are inspirational to say the least!
Added to this is the fact that Steph also runs her own business. She turns up to each day after waking up at 4.30am, swimming for 2 hours, and training in the gym for an additional 2 hours!
On Wednesday, Steph came to talk to Pear Tree Elementary’s students about what motivated her to achieve all that she has achieved, how to pursue dreams when everyone tells you you can’t achieve them, and how she has overcome challenges and disappointments.
Steph’s visit ties in with the themes of The Human Brain and Sports Science studied by Communities 1 and 2.
Thank you Steph!
